Remembering Don Richardson, former TRREB CEO

In a sombre announcement, the Toronto Regional Real Estate Board (TRREB) shared the information of the passing of previous CEO Don Richardson, a revered figure in the organized actual estate landscape. 

Don’s tenure as CEO spanned an extraordinary 14 yrs, for the duration of which he exhibited stalwart management and left an indelible mark on the industry.

Don’s contributions to the genuine estate job began extensive ahead of his time at TRREB. In the 1970s and 1980s, he served as the director of education and learning for the Ontario Serious Estate Association (OREA), where he played a pivotal role in improving the qualified progress courses needed for aspiring salespersons in Ontario. With a job that began as a profits agent in 1971, Don’s expertise and dedication to excellence propelled him to very own a brokerage in Newmarket, Ont.

 

A legacy of leadership

 

Underneath Don’s capable direction, TRREB flourished into a progressive and dynamic group. His leadership prolonged over and above the boundaries of the board, as he shared his invaluable insight and experience with other actual estate boards across Canada. 

In recognition of his profound effects on the association and the occupation, Don was honoured with TRREB’s optimum accolade, the Award of Merit, in 2014. Also, his outstanding devotion and exemplary company to the realtor local community were acknowledged in 2003 when he received the Award of Excellence from CREA.

Don will be remembered for his relentless attempts, usually at the rear of the scenes, which led to many progress benefiting authentic estate specialists across Canada. In addition to his skilled achievements, Don was known for his enthusiasm for bike riding and his involvement as a single of the founding users of the Realtors Care Ride.

Don is survived by his beloved spouse, Avelyne, his small children Chandra, Eryn, Brett, Fayth, and his cherished grandchildren, Alyssa, Tyler, Austin, April, Owen, and Travis. Through this hard time, the family has requested privacy, and as a result, there will be no general public funeral assistance. As a tribute to Don’s legacy, donations can be built to the Ontario Realtors Care Foundation.

Reflecting on Don’s retirement in 2014, the late Hugh Foy (who was, at the time, TRREB’s director of industrial and customers growth) acknowledged this leader’s impactful get the job done in an job interview with True Estate Journal.

Alan Tennant, CEO of the Calgary Genuine Estate Board, beforehand recommended Richardson as a “saviour” who properly navigated the turbulent waters, bringing steadiness and prosperity to the group. Tennant praised Richardson as “one of the most considerate and articulate leaders I’ve at any time appear across.”
